You need to unscrew the speedo cable at the trans, thats whats holding it.

Not without modification. Rewiring, and mounting issues.

there are also two other groupings of wires that are plugged into the back of the cluster, when you take the speedo cable out be careful notto lose the little brass o-ring that sits on the tranny

Easiest way is just to stick your hand up from the foot well to the back of the cluster, should feel the cable go in with a clip around the cable that attaches to the cluster, push down on the clip so it releases from the cluster and slide it down the cable. Then pull the cluster a little bit out, there should be a black plug on the left and a white plug on the right remove those and youre done.

I've removed many a Festy speedo cable from a gearbox and never seen any "brass O-ring" either!

There is a rubber O-ring that goes on the "bracket" that's held into the gearbox with a hex-head screw that needs a 10mm socket, but I've never seen (nor looked) for anything where the cable screws onto that bracket. You certainly wouldn't need a copper crush ring since it doesn't need to be that tight, and what harm would a little gearbox oil splashing up into the speedo cable do?
