  • Weber 32/36 carb jetting info

    Been tuning around on my Weber 32/36 carb. Getting close to a good running set up by changing jets. I was curious as to what members that have a Weber carb on their Festy's, what jets they wound up with after tuning?
    Mine was a mess(used, but good shape), the guy I got it from obviously didnt know what he was doing.
    These are what I have installed now:

    Idle Jets
    primary=.050
    secondary=.055

    Main Jets
    primary=.140
    secondary=.145

    Air Correction Jets
    primary=.165
    secondary=.175

    When I removed the jets from the carb, I was atonished!!! The guy had been soldering and drilling out the jets, what looked like, by hand!!! Could'nt tell what sizes were in there. He had even ground off 1/16 of the bottom of one of the air correction jets at an angle, had soldered closed a hole drilled sideways on it and.... well... basically a mess!!!! Had been doing the same with the Main's too. He had .175 in the primary main.
    Had jets reversed with the bigger ones on the primary's. So I had nothing to reference, just had to take my best guess.
    I have it to where it doesnt bog to bad on throttle stomp now. Just bogs a tiny bit. Close, but more tuning needed. Before I started tuning, trying to take off was a PITA. It would bog real bad and try to die (almost to the point it would try to hit your face on the steering wheel), then catch up and take off like like a missle. Now it'll do a smooth take off, but can hear it bogging somewhat. Probably running on the rich side still. Time for a highway tryout.
    The VW place I buy the jets from locally, is out of the smaller size jets. I got the smallest he had. The idle jets I think are about right, but I may need to drop down on the Mains.
    Any ideas from anybody that did this in the past?

      well dan, if it bogs just on throtle tip in, can you reduce the accel pump fuel volume? i'm thinking that when you stomp on it, you're choaking out a bit with the excess fuel.

        the jets are too big. The original carb uses 0.83 and 0.138, but if you put this when cold the engine will ask for more gas. I curretly have 0.95 and 0.150 and it runs very well. If you have smog test then put the small jets for the test, otherwise it wont passed

          ahh, but look at your geographic location and elivation, that has alot to do with the jet size as well.

            I have read a little bit about jets on bike engines but what kind of gains can you get from a car?

              St. Louis is about 500 feet above sea level. According to my old Weber manual, jetting for 0 - 5000 feet is the same. But better to go a little lean for those times you hafta go into the mountains.

                  Are "hills" around here only go 700-800 ft. A few 1000 ft.

                  I'm going to have to order smaller jets online. I got the smallest I could get locally. Had 175 main in it when I got it. The 140 main now. Gas mileage is..ok, but stomping on it now it flies. I will be experimenting around with it more.
                  I can actually "feel" how it needs to be by the way it acts, if that makes any sense. I can feel the accelleration "curve" (for lack of a better word) as I press on the gas and the way the carb is either accellerating or bogging as I step on it.
                  My plan is to get it slightly lean or, dead on, the primary side, and maybe a tad rich on the secondary. Right now, I am no longer afraid of ...hills!!!
                  Bring 'em on baby! I can take 'em now!

                    Is that
                    .095=primary main
                    .150=secondary main?

                    Sounds like a good combo. Does the .095 run lean?

                      I was thinking that .095 was crazy lean, but considering that .140 works well for an 1800cc motor, .095 now sounds about right, proportionally. Should give great gas mileage too. The .150 on the secondary might be more than needed, but probably will do no harm.

                          I am looking around for jets. Found some .115 main jets on ebay. Smallest found so far. I may get them to try for primary. I will stay with the .145 main secondary for now.

                            The Weber web site has main jets for 4.95. The smallest they have is .100. I found a 32/36 for 100.00 so keep up the good work, I'll be picking everyone's brains later!
