To begin with, my Festiva shop manual doesn't show what I saw, and my Chilton's 323/etc. manual didn't go into detail...
When I put together my crank cogs and then the pulley, I put the key in with the bevel in first with it down to fit into the slope of the keyway on the crank nose.
It didn't go in all the way. Maybe 3/8" of it stuck out. That seemed to be fine since the pulley went on over it and I put on the crank bolt and torqued it with no problem.
Does this sound normal? Or did I maybe put the key in the wrong way? Neither manual mentions this that I saw.
Asking this a slightly different way: if one were to install only the timing belt cogs and the crank bolt over the key, would it all be flush? Mine stuck out with the bolt bearing on the tip of the key. This just seemed weird to me.
Thanks,
Karl
