If any of you would like to contribute to my funds for all these replacement bearings and seals then have at it I am gonna do a price check to see how much all of it will be, might sell my canopy of my dodge to pay for a majority of it if i end up doing it. Thanks for the info guys, cant wait to tear into this thing!

There are rebuild kits on rockauto.com but I think they come with pistons. And you probably just need rings so it may be cheaper just to piece together the parts. Someone should chime in if they disagree. If ordering anywhere online check for coupons at retailment.com. Saved me close to $90 on my $300 Aspire swap rebuild and gave me free shipping from advanceauto.com.

Okay so i was on rockauto.com and was looking at the rebuild kits, mainly just rings and pistons. It says right at the top that our cars have a 1295cc engine, but then the only parts i can buy, only lists for a 1324cc engine. I dont get it?

For the same amount of money or less (dependant of what parts you were to eventually buy), consider a b6 swap. It's plug and play, depending on what year you get. The swap would actually be easier than rebuilding the engine for you as well. Then later on, if you want to tackle a rebuild, you'd rebuild the b6 because there's way more parts available for it, for less money actually. That is something you can actually research right now too!
The additional upside to this is a slight increase in power (approximately 15-20%), but with almost zero increase in fuel useage!
What you're not being told about a rebuild is that you'll need some tools you may not have already, so that becomes a co$t you'd need to factor in, in the event you can't find a friend that'll loan you what you need. EG. torque wrenches, bigger sockets, ring compressor, valve spring compressor, etc.
You got to trust me on this one, I've actually rebuilt engines and transmissions, not just read about here.

Yep, I'd go with the B6 swap. If you can't find any decent B6s, then maybe a B8. B8s should be dime-a-dozening all over the place (Protege DXs from 1991 to 1994), while the same year 323s are scarce here in central Ohio.

Of course after an engine swap, you'll be wanting a brake and suspension upgrade...

With a B8 you'll be NEEDING it. Especially with your newly developed lead foot!

I'm liking the sound of the B6 swap instead! what vehicles come with that motor in it and do they mount up to the stock transmission? I think i will just deal with the oil burn problem till i can get a new motor

And, in return, you can show him what the Shift key does and how to employ punctuation.
