I've consistently been getting 42-44 mpg (34-35mpg US) around town this winter. My best ever was just over 60mpg on a highway trip with two of us (both over 200lbs) and some tools in the car, in a semi-deliberate attempt to see just how little fuel I could use.

Generally the mixture screws are for the idle circuit only. I don't know the specifics on those carbs, is this a feedback carb, does it have electrical connections? Does your car have an O2 sensor?

My car is a 1997 kia pride lx dont know if its a feedbak carb. Also has a 13 inch wheel 5 speed trans. Just want to know how to go about adjusting the air & fuel mix scres at the back of the carb. If I turn the screw clockwise which is sets the screw deeper will it be going on the leaner side and if I unscrew it & turn it counter clockwise will it enrichen the fuel? Maybe the mechanic made a mess with the mixture screw that I consume too much fuel and its very unusual consumption even for a carbed car being an 1100cc car. Usually here in the Philippines they get 14 to 15 kms/Liter consumption.

The screw is not in use once the throttle is off idle, at that point the main jets take over, so it can't really affect mileage to much.

Anyway, you hook a tach and/or vacuum gauge, adjust the screw for max vacuum and max RPM, it must be at the curb idle speed when making this adjustment, maybe at that point go in just a hair to be on the lean side.

My Gf gets a consistent 45 mpg running to work, and she runs on winding back roads not highways.
            with a 5 speed festiva, 1993.
            cheap gas.

The mpgs go down when it needs a tune up and an oil change, so maybe keeping fresh plugs wires ect has alot to do with it, or just the amount of internal wear damage from "previous owners".

my 96 aspire automatic gets 34 mpg on the same roads, Running high test and full syn oil.

a friend of mines 97 5 speed aspire gets 40 mpgs running around delivering pizza and they dont take care of the engine at all.

its probably a crap shoot who's engine gets better or worse MPG due to who owned and beat the tar out of it before you got it...

Still kinda new to my '89 Fiesty, but I've found if I stick close to 55 Mph, I get around 42-44 Mpg. She's mostly a "get to work" car so I'm in no hurry and 55 is just fine.

                  I'm getting 19 MPG with 87 octane in my B3 It's a very fast B3, mind you.

                  26 MPG with 89/93 mixture.

I just put 94 in it this week, just in case I can sneak on the waterford track at FF'06

I get around 26mpg (US) or 30mpg (IMP) in all weathers and conditions on average.

According to an Australian review the cars only do 8.4L/100Km which is around 32mpg (IMP) or roughly 27/28mpg (US) so even my shitty 26mpg is not drastic in reality I guess.

The pathetic performance would suggest 45mpg (US) to be expected though

Dragon888, I'm from the Philippines too. I own a Kia Avella/Ford Aspire 1.3L on EFI and I get 12-14km/L depending on the variables(traffic, a/c, load etc).

Where's your location? Maybe our guys from Kia Pride Club help you out if you live close by.

What's the geography like there? On a trip to Florida gas milage is much better on the coastal plain south of Richmond VA. Not bad here in Ottawa on an old glacial lake bed.

Also if you buy your fuel when it is cool out (in the early am, or late at night) it will save you some. When it is cool the fuel is more dense. Here in Atlanta they even have signs over the highway that remind you to buy fuel after 6pm

                            mpg

The worst I've gotten is 29 mpg in a stock 89 L (carbed) 4 speed. That's runnin' the dog doo out of it. It never warmed up. It always operated below the operating range. My nephew still drives that one (number 6 to me). The best I got was 42 in my stock 93 efi 5 speed (number 5 to me). That's runnin' the dog doo out of it too. I heard of an old man who babys his and gets 52. I've also heard of a stock carbed 89 LX with air running loaded down and the a.c. on getting 49 mpg on the highway. I bought that one w/ a blown head gasket and parted it out. (It was number 10 to me.)

My best in a '91 Festiva L 5 speed was 43+ mpg in October from Eureka to north of Seattle(around 1500 miles) and back at just below 70 mph on the freeway with few hills except for about three hundred miles of two lane along the coast and through some low mountains.

I have 13" wheels and 155 80R-13 tires and I multiply times 1.03 to get what I figure is accurate on the speedometer and odometer.(I think some of the incredible mileage registered with 12" wheels and tires is because the speedometer and odometer are reading way too high...I know mine was)

Doing the same drive this July my average was around 38 mpg and it was really hot out and I noticed lots of tar from the road under hood and on the front of my car. I did get 61 mpg from one strech north of Seattle to Mount St. Helens on Interstate 5 when it was around 90 degrees and there was so much traffic I was never much over 60, but I figure either the pump read wrong or I made a mistake as I've never gotten anything like that before. I didn't count that in figuring the rest of my mileage.

I seem to get around 34-38 no matter what I do just driving locally which is a combination of most everything from around town to freeway to two lane.

The motor has never had anything but Mobil One because its first owner was a jet helicopter mechanic and I've continued the tradition.(removing a roof rack I thought didn't make much difference really is the thing I've done to improve my gas mileage the most...one of those things that are just a couple of cross-bars that clamp on the edges of the sides of the roof)

I've been running at 32 pounds in both the front and rear tires, but might try 35 in the front for awhile to see if there is much difference.
