ummm make sure there's no holes in the intake tube that would allow air to get in past the VAF, that can easily cause your issues.

I cannot find hole one. Again, it start acting stupid all of a sudden. The rubber intake hose is fine, I haven't pulled the plastic one. I'm thinking of putting a fuel pressure tester on the car.at.idle. but when I pull the fuel line off the intake, I get a lot of fuel coming out. I wonder if the return is clogged maybe?1963 Fairlane - future NSS drag car

if the return was cloged, you'd never know it aside from poor fuel milage.Trees aren't kind to me...

Okay, if the intake tube had holes, why would unplugging the VAF make a difference?
At idle, with the VAF off the car and unplugged, holding your hand over the rubber tube will collapse and kill the car. Can't hear any sucking noises either.
We soldered the VAF, but it still doesn't work.
No idea as to the age of the gas, it might also be E10 that has attracted H2O......1963 Fairlane - future NSS drag car

Can't speak to the first two lines of the above.
Check the connections at the VAF very carefully, I've done this and I do not possess the skills of an EE. Only other option is to check that the connector to the VAF is making good contact. They can get bent/burned/corroded and cause issues. As a last resort place a [WTB] and see if anyone near by has a known good unit, but only as a last resort. Do you have a member(s) near by that you can swap in a known good unit to confirm VAF failure.
Open the sender/pump access port under the rear seat carpet and remove the sender/pump assembly. Using a good nylon brush and gloves, scrub as much of the inside of the tank as you can get to. Then ASAP unbolt the tank drain and see what comes out. If it's nasty looking try to filter the crud from draining the tank so you and use it to flush out more crud by refilling and scrubbing. Repeat as necessary. You might have to purchase new clean gas for flushing, if it's coming out really bad. At which point a new sock filter for the pump would be a good investment.
Good luck with the tank and VAF.Last edited by Pu241; 06-14-2011, 01:20 PM.'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)

Put the blue car VAF on and it runs perfect, so maybe the red VAF went bad before I took it apart. What do they go for used on here? I had a hard time searching for one.Last edited by Larry Hampton; 06-15-2011, 07:58 PM.1963 Fairlane - future NSS drag car
