Are the Camshaft seal and the Crankshaft seal the same part? I thought I've read that before.
Getting ready to replace them, one is $5 the other is $40

On rockauto.com the camshaft is 4-10 dollars and the rear main crank seal is around $20. Second of all I do not know if the crank nose of the later engines affect this, if you have a 1992 or earlier engine make sure you search that and compare if you are trying to locate the front seals too.

Be careful you don't score the seal journal getting the seal out. My beloved '93 is currently drydocked for that reason.

I've never done a rear but I believe it's bigger. I have an engine on a stand but I can't see the rear because of the stand mount. I'll take another look.

some engines use the same seal for cam and crank, some have two different seals. I think it changed sometime in '89-'90.

My experience says that the cam and crank seals are the same at LEAST through the 90 model year.

at Madness 4 i did the crank and cam seals on Pepe and used the same part for both, no leaks or fitment issues to speak of since.

so, for your 89, yes they are the same.

Wouldn't the crank seal size have changed when they changed the size of the crank snout? Sometime around late 92? So for I've been able to interchange them on everything but my 93 (and Aspires). The only year model I haven't worked on yet is a 92 so I can't comment on those.

Had to order the cam shaft seal. It'll be here Friday. Maybe I can get it installed. Without tearing anything up.
