Adjusted timing belt a little. Car sputters when taking off. Then its like something kicks in and it will go. What can this be. I thing its something with timing because it started when I changed can seal.

what is the position of the disty? Take a pic. If it is not in almost the middle then you are still off on your timing.

Ya bring the engine to TDC and take a picture of the rotors position.
not just the rotor....where the bolt actually is in the swing of adjustment.

i did my cam seal, crankshaft seal, and oil pan gasket and still have an oil leak! it sucks...
Christian,
Sounds like you have have a lot of blowby on the rings. One thing that helped me, I replaced the oil filler cap with an aftermarket chrome breather cap, that helped for a while. Now I have the original cap drilled a ~3/4" hole in the middle of it and ran a vent hose over to a catch can mounted beside the battery.

I borrowed a timing light. Now how do I use it. What do I remove to set timing? Do I need special tools? What adjustments do I do.

Mark TDC on the crankshaft pulley with whiteout. hook the negative cable on the timing light to a good solid metal part under the hood. This will act as a ground. Hook the positive cable to the positive side of the battery. Hook the signal reference clamp on the #1 spark plug wire. While the engine is running point the gun at the crank pulley and watch as the white mark strikes the TDC mark on the timing cover. What your going to want to do is adjust the disty so that the gun flashes right at the point where the TDC mark on the crank hits right at the TDC mark on the timing cover. Will will let you know that the ignition timing is dead tits!
This is only accurate if your mechanical timing is correct. You can also use digital timing lights to advance your timing a certain amount of degrees to gain alittle more from the engine. If you know the spec timing degrees they can also help to get the timing to or within spec. Digital timing lights are expensive though.
Ok guys. I aligned to can shaft 12 and 3 o'clock. Crankshaft on the T mark. Looked at the dizzy and its on the #1. Started car and looked with timing light. Adjusted dizzy until mark on crankshaft was flashing right around the T mark. Car seems to be running better. Ill keep you posted.

Bring the crank pulley to TDC, once you have done that remove the top timing belt cover. If the mechanical timing is correct the dots on the camshaft pulley should be pointing at 12 and 3 o'clock.
