alternator problem

So Friday night the stud for my escort alternator snapped. I removed the braket and hooked up the eyelet on the back side of alternator. I kept blowing main fusible links while reconnecting the battery. So I threw the festivaalternator on... is the festiva alternator enough to power my car with a bp in it? Oris there a wayh I can get escort alternator hooked up with the stud broke?

I ran Festiva alternator on my BP for 50,000 miles without issue. The BP is rated for 65amp and the festiva is rated for 50amp. Which stud snapped? The one the eyelet is supposed to bolt to? And in what way did you "hook up the eyelet on the back side of the alternator"? I'm still not sure exactly what happened... or why you would remove the bracket? If you have that eyelet hooked directly to the body of the alt, thats why its blowing fuses. That eyelet goes directly to the battery + side through the links so if it touches anything grounded it will keep popping fuses. Maybe a pic of what broke?

The festiva alternator should be fine. 50amps is plenty to run your radio headlights and wipers.

So you just attached the eyelet to the bracket? That will pop links as you are directly grouding the hot side of the battery. Only way to repair alt would be come up with a replacement for that stud I guess.

It shouldn't take any more amps for one motor as another because they run on gas.

Computers, fuel injectors, and ignition coils all require electricity.
Turn off your engine while driving at night but leave the car in gear. The headlights will get brighter because the alternator is still spinning and generating power, but there is less load with the engine computer and ignition system off.

The difference of 15A is only for accessories found on larger and/or fancier cars that the BPs came from. Accessories our cars do not have.
