Sounds like we found the problem. I didn't time the cam to the 12 position on the crank and instead timed it to the crank lining up with the lined pointer at 2 o'clock.

Which mark on the crank pulley do I use? I have 2 about 10 deg apart

no no...those on the plastic cover are for a timing light.

if you look inside the oil pump above where the crank protrudes out of the block there's a little hatch V mark at the apex / 12' and then when you take the pulley off you'll see on the cog that the timing belt rides on there's a V there too.

with the top cover off you can kind of see it barely with a light from the right side of the pulleys and inbetween the tensioner and the block. sort of...barely.

and iirc you'll want to start with the belt on the front of the engine and keep it tight there and work your way around to the back to the tensioner. then after you're sure it's right turn the engine over...they say once. but I'd go a couple times completely to make sure it's right. it can be tricky but sounds like you're on the right track

if you have a long bendy mirror it might help some as well??

If I put the crank key at exactly 12', then the 2nd pulley mark aligns with the cover pointer. Correct?

          err...

crank at 12 (on the timing belt pulley)
then the two marks on the cam pulley will be 12 and 3

on the valve cover is a mark at 12

Just got done for the night. I'll pick up my fuel pump sock and start it up tomorrow morning. I found out my fuel pump was stuck which I got running well off the battery and then my timing was off significantly. Should be a different car tomorrow. Thank you all for your help and input.

I have two notches in my crank pulley about 10deg apart. Which one do I use to set the timing?

One should be TDC the other is where its sposed to be set at idle?

Which is which? When I had engine at TDC the rear mark was aligned with the pointer. I will time against the first mark to 5deg BTDC

When the engine is rotated over by hand in the normal direction. The first mark to align up will be BTDC. The next will be TDC. BTDC= Before Top Dead Center. Hope that helps?

Attached are 2 pictures of the front of the crank pulley and the notches I am trying to identify. The crank is positioned in TDC as I was setting the timing. You will see the keyway is located at 12 o'clock. The circle to the upper left of the crank pulley lined up exactly with the mark shown when it was at TDC. When I am setting the timing with a timing light to the rectangle which has lines going from TDC to 10° BTDC, but I am unsure which mark in the crank to line up with the 5°BTDC line on the scale.
