I believe a member here found a burnt and bent connector which caused running issues but not quite this mod of failure.
Yep, that was me, on mine it was the white wire going to the VAF was broken/burnt. Even switched VAFs with one out of one of my other festivas that KNEW was good. Of course that didn't fix it because the problem wasn't the VAF itself but the wiring going into the VAF. I'm guessing that unplugging it makes the computer go into some kinda of default mode (on my car I was making it go away for a few minutes at a time by turning the key off then back on), but it still comes back. Your problem sounds very very similar to mine. Unplug it and check for any corrosion, broken wires, anything that could cause a bad connection in there. Could even be that one of the contacts in the plug is pushed back into the plastic on the connector, so when you're looking at the plug make sure all the little metal contacts in it are all even with each other. If you're unsure about any of it just take some pics and post them up, we'll get it sorted out for ya!
                        No festiva for me ATM...

Wow, you checked on every member in MO, and your 2 hrs from them all?
                              I'm impressed.
Those I know personally and the geography of MO would put you in very remote sections of MO.
