  • coolant pushing out the overflow

Hey guys I just replaced the following gaskets head, valvecover, thermostat + the gasket, timing cover set n the exhaust manifold. Now my problem is after getting it buttoned up started it up after a short time it was pushing coolant into the overflow at a concerning rate. So we piled the radiator cap and started it again and almost immediately shooting out of the radiator cap hole.
So did we not burp the system enough, or is there a problem I don't about yet?

Are you sure you got thermostat in correctly and is it a two stage?

As far as I know its in right. The bottom spring side goes in the head that is how it seemed to want to go in.

Id check to make sure you have good flow through the radiator.

Did you put the jiggle pin at the top when you installed the t-stat?

Yea, what JoDan said was going to be my next thought. Course the way I would check would be drain radiator, take top and bottom hose off, keep cap on and put garden hose in top inlet and stuff rag around it to keep water from coming back out and see how well water comes out bottom outlet. Someone may have a different way to do it. Someone may have another suggestion about your problem also. You could probably do this with radiator still on.

^That's the best way to do it. I'm concerned that your boiling coolant or you have combustion in the coolant but I'd check the easiest first. We've had guys do head gasket jobs over the same problem and it ended up being a clogged radiator not cooling enough. Is your fan coming on at all?

Also spark plugs dry so no combustion as as far as I can tell

It sounds like you just have a big air bubble. Mine is always hard to burp, even with the special funnel and cap fittings it still boils over atleast once. When it starts to get hot squeeze the hoses and it starts to boil shut it off and let it calm down, add more coolant and repeat. If it keeps doing it, try parking your car on a slope, or jack up the front of the car and support it. The higher the better.

Idk I just put everything back together didn't quite fill it all the way so I had some room for error. I just drove it 5miles from my moms to my place n it didn't notice any major issues other than it wont idle on its own anymore but that might be a sensor issue. I broke the sensor that goes into the head. One more thing I don't have money for this week. I might have my neighbor look at it.

Pain..you have to bleed air out of all high points or use a coolant evacuater - charger.
Assume you followed the excellent advise about thermostats and thermostat installation.

Sounds like its blowing compression into the cooling system.
