I've been trying to figure out which wire to tap into to make my temp gauge work but am not 100 percent sure. I tried the one wire on the thermostat housing, wrong one. Then the one next to that with a blade type connector, totally wrong, it pegged the gauge when hooked up. There is one more connector right next to the thermo housing with a green connector and two wires coming off of it. One is black and the other is red with green stripe. I'm hoping this red/green one is the right wire for the gauge.

The 93 festiva will have a yellow wire with white stripe leaving the cluster. If you got the engine and harness from a 91 protege it will have a black wire with a orange stripe. You should be able to make the gauge read hot with a 10 ohm resistor hooked between the harness connector and ground. 73 ohm should read cold. The sensor you are hooking it to should read in that neighborhood depending on water temp. That would be from sensor plug in to the ground (nut part) of sensor.Reflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig

The little sensor in the front of the head near the thermostat housing provides a variable ground for the temp gage circuit I think. If you take the wire off it and touch it to ground the gage will climb to the top, at least it did on mine. I got a new sendor at Advance Auto parts for $10.99. Part # WT608P. Got my gage working again.
