The ranger went to the Ford motors after they phased out the courier. The Mazda followed and got the 2.3 and 2.5 Ford motors as well I believe. I think after the courier went out, the Mazda copied the Ford instead of the other way around. The courier had all Mazda everything up until about 81 or so, then they started the 2.3 Ford motor as an option with the base Mazda 2.0. Sorry the courier is another of my favorite cars
89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power...

The B-series Mazda pickups varied. The B2600 and B2200 were all Mazda but the B2300, B2500, B3000 and B4000 (see a pattern here?) were all Ford Rangers in disguise. The numbers are basically the engine size (2.6 and 2.2 were Mazda engines, 2.3, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0 all Ford).

I used to own a '00 B3000 and aside from slightly different headlights and different badging it was identical to a Ranger 3.0. It even had Ford stickers and said "Made by Ford for Mazda" on the door jamb sticker. It literally came off of the same assembly line the Rangers come off of.

It was even a flex fuel! (It LOVED E85!)

The Festiva's were technically made by Kia but Kia used Mazda drivetrains (and many other Mazda parts). My '89 'stiva actually says "Made for Ford by Kia motors" on its door jamb sticker.

My other car, a '95 Escort is really a Mazda with a Ford drivetrain. Many interior Mazda parts will interchange with it (much like the 'stiva) and a common engine swap is to drop in a Mazda engine and transmission - and the GT models even use Mazda drivetrains. A few guys even mounted the little v6 Mazda engines in them!

Now my '98 Windstar and my old '89 Tempo and '88 Crown Vic.. those were all (for the most part) Fords.

I forgot about the b2200 and I don't think I've ever seen a b2600 that I remember. I knew the b3000 and 4000 were Ford tho, worked on a few of those. Dang fords

Good luck finding the one with the MTX 4 in a tempo.

The MTX 4 is used in the 89-95 sho , you will have a better chance hitting a mtx4 in the sho world.

My dad bought a brand new Courier in 1981. It was special ordered with the longest box (6'?), 2.3L Ford engine and a 5-speed (Mazda trans I assume). It was the only Courier I have ever seen with factory sport bucket seats, faux brushed aluminum dash and an aluminum spoke, leather wrapped sport steering wheel. :p I wish I had that truck now! It would be great for a 2.3L turbo swap.

What I meant was the B2200, B2600 came from Mazda's assembly plants where as the others came from Ford assembly plants.

But bravo on your keen sense of observation!
