    I'll see about swapping the transmission, any idea how much a cam for a festiva would go for?

            What're the regs concerning turbos? A VJ-11 would put that B3 at around 100hp. Maybe add some B6 injectors and a Swift GT clutch. I'd definitely consider port polish. The exhaust ports on the B3 are like the corners of a picture frame. Also, stiffen the suspension if you haven't already. Lightweight wheels would certainly help, if you're not running the stock 12's. If you turbo, maybe a 2" exhaust with 22" glass pack to replace the cat (if you can) and strap a Thrush muffler to the end.

                  B3 = 1.3 litre SOHC
                  B6 = 1.6 litre SOHC

                    ^ the exact differance is: the casting is different, allowing the B6 block to have a larger bore (you CANNOT bore a B3 to accept B6 pistons). the cranks, rods, and all accessories are interchangeable between the B3 and B6, even the heads can swap, BUT a B6 head on a B3 will require machining for valve clearance and there are 2 generations of the B6 head, so pay attention to what year the engine comes out of.

                      If your not allowed to make any engine performance mods, then I wouldn't suggest a FMS cam. I believe even the mild cam has a noticable idle. Most people will pick up on it right away. The auto is killing you, so a swap to a manual is the first thing I would do. You may want to get a copy of the official class rules in writing.

                        I was told by Zanzer that the rod journal diameters are different between the B3 and B6 cranks and the B3 rods are longer. I know the compression height is different between the B3 and B6 pistons (B3 pistons have less comp height) and the rod bearings are different part numbers, so everything he told me the made sense. I've never had a B3 apart, so I can't speak from first hand knowledge.

                          that may be true for the second gen B6. and very likely for a miata B6 or B6t

                              The rod journals on my 1st gen B6 that I'm rebuilding measure 1.7695". According to both Haynes manuals and my Federal Mogul bearing spec catalog, the B3 rod journals are 1.5724". It appears all B6 and B8 variants share the same rod journals, which are bigger than the B3. The 1.5 DOHC appears to have the same smaller journals as the B3.

                                ^ ah, HA! well, with that info, we can make B1 engines!!! and then boost the crap out of them.

                                but IIRC the CRANK journals are the same?
