Then as far as I know you have a good working Festiva(other than the tranny leak you posted about)! I am 99.8% certain it does that every time.

I disconnected the battery the o2 sensor, VAF connection, and let her sit for a couple hours, got off work connected everything back up and she started right up drove her back home with no problems. Any ideas what this could be? i,m getting very frustrated.

So it wouldn't start as in it spun over but wouldn't pop off, or just clicked once you turned the key and that was all she wrote?
              Thanks, Mike

it just spun but wouldn't pop off, i don't understand why it is so intermittent. I just took my dog for a drive started right up no problem, shut it down got some beer and started right up and drove home.

                  Try the "wire wiggle".

Try to get it to DIE while its running. Wiggle the VAF harness plug while its running & see you can get it to hic-up. Also try wiggling the plug for your Ign module. But from you past posts. It sounds like the VAF or VAF plug is bad.
TRY the wire wiggle Bro,its helped me many times with intermittant woes.GOOD LUCK

Next time it wont start check for spark

If it does it again, verify its getting spark. And verify your fuel pump relay is clicking on & off with key switch cycles
Easy way to verify spark on the roadside.Have car in neutral with ebarke on.
                    Have key in RUN
Pull coil wire off Dizzy & set it on the eng block
Jump starter relay with a test lead so she cranks.
                    Look for spark
My guess is you'll have good spark.
Then you know its fuel issue.YOU HAVE TO NARROW THIS DOWN.
MOST IMPORTANT,check ground for fuel sending unit. Its the one coming off the fuel inertia switch.
MOST IMPORTANT,check Gounod for VAF. Its the heavy one on the front corner of the eng block. In front of the starter. A loose ground will cause your symptoms for sure.
You can fix this but keep your frustration in check. If this was my problem,I would def learn where my fuel pump relay is. And I would pull it out & bench test it with some light bulbs & a battery. I would cycle that thing till the cows came home. But thats just me,down on the farm. Now go and kick that Festy's butt. Its got a new owner & its trying to have its way with you. Dig your spurs in. And show her who's the new Daddy!

BEER GOOOOOOOD. Is it a STOUT or some whimpy miller lite?

So I think I may have figured out the problem, I started her up this morning drove to work just fine got off work no start. I had my friend mess with the little flap within the VAF and she started just fine. Does that mean the VAF is broken?

Hit the pivot point with some PB Blaster to break it loose!
Corrosion and/or crude are probably binding it.
Spray and push it in and release it a few dozen times.
It is spring loaded so should return on its own.
If the door doesn't move when you crank it, the pump does not continue to pump fuel, so I think you found your problem!
