  • dash lights work in first position then cut out when lights on..

I just aquired a 60k mile '91 festiva! I've gotten all the bugs out except, when I turn the headlight switch to the first position the dash lights come on as they should, but when I turn it to the second position my headlights come on but the dash lights go off- what gives here? Thanks!

That's weird, do the running lights stay on with the headlights?

I bet it's a problem with the switch itself. Install new one.

              White festiva..

I didn't get the white one, this was parked at a neighbors for two years and I kept driving by it on my way to work (in my 15mpg ford f250 7.3 diesel). I did what any good picker would do, I knocked on the door, worked out deal and hauled it out of there. It needed new front tires, a rear window and drivers window, and an oil change. I will drive it today to work for the first time. Tommorow I'm getting all the componants to install A/C from the junkyard where I found a the window doner festiva.

Try spraying WD-40 or eletrical contact cleaner into the switch.
I used WD-40 on my ignition switch. Have never tried contact cleaner.

I have a wiper/turn signal/clockspring column assembly from my aspire laying around if you need one, I'd let it go cheap if you need it, just pm me. You'd have to splice the wires into your socket but they're not very different.

When the headlights are on, the tailights go off, as well as the running lights. I think I will grab the switch out of the junkyard car, hopefully its still good. I noticed one running light bulb is out as well. I guess I'll try a switch?

                      Light Issue fixed!

Well, I got a new switch at the junkyard, I guest its the multifunction switch behind the steering wheel, put it on everthing works great. I suspect that 90% of all light problems probobly have to do with this switch. Easy repair..

My old Nissan truck did the same thing. I rewired the parking lights to the ignition and ever time I put my keys in the parking lights came on.
