  • Headlight question.

can the headlight switch be cleaned somehow, or does it need to be replaced? I have done the long leg cartridge fuses, I have turn signals, running lights, but no headlights. Help!

Spray with WD-40 or electrical contact cleaner. My headlights and wipers used to go off intermittently until I sprayed WD-40 into the ignition keyhole. A few years later it started again so I sprayed again.

The factory grease inside the switch gets so thick
it holds the contacts apart. Cold makes it worse.
A good penetrating oil applied where it can get into
the switch is good. It's possible to disassemble
the switch and clean it but it's also possible you
might not contain all the springs

you may want to check the relay under the hood, it's in the inner apron behind the left headlight under the wiring harness. fan relay with blue plug in is next to it in a rubber cover. once you locate it, carefully pull the cover off, then hold the contact and your headlights should come on. It's not common for them to fail, but i have had a couple go bad without notice.

Where could I get a new relay? AutoZoned looked at me like I don't speak English, and then she couldn't be bothered to tell me where I could get one because she had Customers, (what am I, Chopped Liver?) lol! Am I going to have to get it at the dealer? Should I take my own Vaseline? Ugh!

Oh, BTW, I did try the WD-40 thing, but still no headlights. However, my ignition switch, turn signals and wiper lever run Silky Smooth! Thanks~

When I looked, both the white and blue relays were just laying there? I cleaned the contacts, touched them together, still nothing. Shouldn't they be grounded to something? Also I have no cigarette lighter power, but do have turnsignals, and running lights.

I have a good headlight/wiper switch assembly with clockspring attached I can sell you. It came from a 94 aspire, but it should bolt on swap with the festiva column. the socket has been cut off of it so you would need to splice the wires to your socket. Pm me if you want it.

Sounds like the fuse in the fuse panel in the dash. The other fuse is on the left shock tower marked "HEAD"

I am publishing a video of me removing my headlight switch on my 92' Festy to YouTube right now. Maybe it will help you disassemble and clean yours. After I cleaned mine I have had no problems with my headlights as of yet.

It should be up shortly on my YouTube channel
