obviously, but what i'm getting at is that you didn't MATCH the measurement, as that would result in crushed bearing rollers.

actually, mazda noted the discrepancy between the knuckles and developed a kit that covered all of the possible measurements before releasing the product to the market (there are 26 different sizes in the kit to cover all the possibilities (sp)).

So then what about reusing the factory spacer? Wouldn't it be too small if what your saying is true since it's already been crushed and wore in? Like trying to reuse a head gasket after it's been torqued down and ran 150k miles?

no, the spacer is a non-wear, non-crush item (hardened steel). the spacer is specific to the knuckle, not the bearings.

Yes, if you still have the spacer, re use it......in my case, a previous owner had done that side and decided it was not necessary to put it back in. Hence the need to make a new one.

The point is, is that getting the kit from Mazda is not needed. If you have ability to make your own.

What! No wheel hub assembly? man that sucks! So what would a job like this cost if I were to take it to an auto tech and have it done?

AFAIK Mazda does not sell the spacers here in Canada any more. You have to get them from Kia who used them in the Rio. Somewhere in a previous thread on this site you can find a copy of the page from the Rio manual listing all 21 spacer dimensions.

I'll tell you what mine cost at the machine shop (yes, I caved). $40 bucks. And I believe if I had it to do all over, I would still pay $40 bucks. We'll just have to see if it lasts. But as far as I know that is all my Festy needs for now.

I do appreciate all the help and offers for help. I could not have made this Festy what it is today, without you guys on this site. Thank you very much.

^ + the cost of new bearings, 40$ each side for the good ones, and is that 40 each knuckle or 40 for both?

That video isn't gonna wait for October!

If you see it done just once, it really is no big deal at all!

Artie, or anyone else for that matter: Any idea where we can source the spacers, or at least get the specs and lathe them? What year Rio, etc...
