  • Oil leaks

I've got a pretty bad oil leak. Using about 5 qts every 1000 miles. What all gaskets/ seals do I need to look at replacing. How hard is it. And how much do I look at spending? Is it worth replacing. Will the motor last long enough after I replace them to be worth replacing them or just keep putting oil in it?

I would start with Valve Cover. Then look at cam seal, crank seal and oil pan gasket.

    vc= $16
    cam seal= $7
    crank seal= $7
    oil pan gasket= $10

Cheaper than dumping oil in if ya ask me.

Don't forget to look at the fuel pump gasket. Mine was losing alot of oil before it was fixed.

I think until you solve your running issue I would hold off on getting answers on this.
Besides, a very little use of the search function will show you how to replace the valve cover gasket, oil pan, and main seals.

Are these the only seals to replace for losing oil?
I just don't want to tear into it. Then redo the same seals because I need to do more seals/gaskets

I know how to replace the valve cover gasket.
And I'm looking at future repairs.
Like looking at how much I need to start saving up.

There is the two gaskets at the fuel pump as wybnormal stated, one on each side of the spacer. $3 ea for the gaskets

The o-ring on the disty could be hard and leaking $2 or less for the o-ring

And as Fever mentioned the PCV could be malfuntioning causing excessive crankcase pressure which will cause leaks.

Heavier viscosity oils can also lead to excessive leaks because they create extra oil pressure that the seals can't handle due to age.

I would even try CD2 oil additive to see if they may soften up a bit before replacing. $4 a bottle

Fuel pump seals are brand new and good.
                  PVC is new and rattles.
                  Don't know about dizzy seal.

Pull the front covers and check for leakage out of the crank and cam seals. 5 qts per 1000 miles?

5 quarts per 1k.....and no obvious leaks? Or puddles on ground? You my friend have larger issues than just seals.

I know it's leaking because I see oil under the bottom of the car. And in the engine area.
What could my other problem be?

Best guess......one of your main seals is completely toast.

Does it smoke at all while driving?
