A decade ago my Festy suddenly started pouring oil on the ground from the timing belt cover area during a cold snap (-30C) and I was lucky to get it home in one piece (used at least one gallon of oil in 25 miles). A local garage fixed it ($600!) and that was what prompted me to start working on my own cars again. Crank seal had blown out, I gather, from iced up crankcase vents. I dunno but it sure was an eye-opener at the time.

Got the crankshaft seal replaced. He had impact wrench. The seal was brittle. He said looks like oil pan gasket needs replacing. He walked me through it. So I've got one on order.
He was saying remove part of the exhaust to get to the oil pan good. And stated that those bolts would be a pain.

Also He adjusted timing belt. It's was off by 1 tooth.
So far that seems to of helped my fuel mileage. I drove it 110 miles home and used about 1/4 tank.

The guy at Oriellys said He only shows one gasket. How will I know it's the right one? What part number?

I've gotten the exhaust off and out of my way. Now I can access the oil pan. I can see where the old gasket is cracking.
Now I'm off to take the pan off.

Oil pan is off. Now time to reseal and reassemble everything.

Finished this last night. Haven't had a chance to test and see if it's leaking. I know it's not leaking just by sitting. I'll be able to tell once I drive it a distance.

Hopefully, less than what it was.

It's still using about 5qts every 1000 miles. It's not leaking out on to the ground. And it's not on the engine like it was. I'm getting oil in the air box. And also still only getting 24 MPG after timing was set. I don't know what else to do.
Could it be sucking THAT much oil into the Carb?

yes it can! inspect your spark plugs for carbon contamination, also inspect the breather hose and PCV on the valvecover.

What's the breather hose? And what will I be looking for? PVC looks good and rattles only another 3 months old
