Jump the fuel pump test connector to rule out fuel pump charging issue (post #57).

we discovered that it seems the part of the switch is loose somewhere within this plug. if we turn the key and move the key just in the right spot it will start... (it still doesn't stay running. as soon as i let off the key it stops)

i had already tested the wires and the metered ok. the wires are not loose. my husband reminded me that he used to wedge a knife blade in between to lift the ignition just slightly to make it stay on. since we replaced this same ignition any suggestion what to look for??

I saw a switch on ebay yesterday. It looked like the wires were cut.

no, they were not cut. i did have a spot where someone before us had removed some of the outer coating of that black/yellow wire but the wire itself was not cut. i put tape over it to protect it further.

we went to the yard where we had found a local festiva and that part was already gone.

          what is that part called?

Oh. You probably would have to cut them to get it. The guy that i bought the ignition from thinks it isnt that part. It doesnt make sense to me that it would be something else. Do u know what it looks like inside?

There are several pics there to compare with yours. Since you are competent at soldering it wouldn't be a bad deal. I would prefer one with the complete pigtails.

when i take the plug out of the cylinder and turn the slot with a screwdriver it turns to all positions and at the last one i turn a little further and it starts just like it is supposed to do. when i let go the spring takes it back to that last spot ON - it shuts off. BUT IF i hold it just before that point of ON, kinda between start and ON, it will stay running. it is like a spring sends it back to on but its too far. is that possible?

is it something we can fix inside the plug? any idea what's inside? the guy we bought the ignition from is going to the the scrap yard and send me that plug. (hopefully, if it is still there)

it's a wiper style switch and a return spring for the last position, rather simple, really. but if the insides act as they do, it's not worth trying to fix it, it'd be easier to adapt another unit from another model than fiddle with the insides of the original.

That ebay unit is at $18. Might need some soldering. Comes with keys and door locks.

can anyone tell me where we might find that plug that goes into the back of the ignition? the guy that send me the ignition sold the car to the junk yard and they have already crushed it. GRRRR!!
