On EFI cars there is a small rubber plug (about 1/2 inch in diameter) on the intake manifold slightly right of center. Pry it out and with a common screwdriver (while the car is running) you can adjust the idle enough to cure your problem. I'm guessing the new sensor is sending a slightly different message to the ECU than the previous one and this minor adjustment screw is just the ticket for addressing that.

I can't directly answer your question, but I don't see this as a real problem. You shouldn't be putting the clutch in for more than a split second anyway, just to change gears.
I'm guessing there is some other factor we don't know about yet, because this symptom sounds strange for replacing the O2.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

yeah i only noticed it because i thought the light was about to change so i put it in first to pull out and the light stayed red. then i felt the whole front end shaking and seen my rpms tank. when i finally parked i repeated the situation over and over and everytime the car went in first same thing then in neurtal rpms back to 600 or 700 or so.93 L plus 5 speed, custom herculined paint job, custom billet grille

More like now your computer is trying to work. Your old one may not have been
sending good info. The computer will sub its own values. Have you done anything
that would switch the clutch input info?? The programmed logic is to raise the idle
a couple hundred when the clutch is pushed in. Get that right then set the idle speedReflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig

Did you disconnect the battery to set the computer back to factory settings? It will then build up new settings based on your individual engine performance. If you didn't clear the settings, as pointed out it's probably using the settings that were built up with the old O2 sensor. It takes about 20 miles of driving to build up new settings. It may correct itself or maybe needs to be cleared. Might help. Can't hurt.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

sounds like you need to clean your throttle body and make sure your dash pot is working (on passenger side of TB, the little diaphram and pushrod).Trees aren't kind to me...
