can some one please tell me if there is different size temp sender size the reason i ask is i have a rebuilt head and when i went to put it all back together
the temp sender would not fit from my old head it was to big, so do i need to tap this or find one in a junk yard that might work. one more thing my old head is from a 91 new head fit 89-97 not sure of the exact year it is from
    thanks to all that look

The sensors should be the same for all years, I believe at least lol

You sure you have the proper sensor?

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

i think so all i did was pull it off the old head when the the old head was working it did show temp, by chance did the carb festiva have a different size? the reason i ask is when i looked at rock auto they show different part # that say for carb festiva from the pic it kinda looks smaller but then again could just be the pic lol

I don't have much experience with carb'd festiva's but I always thought they were the same sized sensors, but like I said, I don't have enough experience with the carby's to know either way

I think there are 2 temp sensors, one for the radiator fan and one in the head for the temp gage. They are different sizes.

yes you are correct the one in question is the one on the front of the head just to the left of the fan switch the temp sender for the temp gage is the one that wont fit

What is the word on the sender not being in contact with any water?

I changed my sender out last week, the engine/rad was full of water and yet nothing came out of the head when I removed the sender and the old sender was dry.

                    Am I missing something here??

I have found that there are 2 different sizes of temperature senders that I pulled from separate B3 heads (from the arrow).
I believe the larger thread, stubbier one is for EFI heads, and the smaller thread long skinny one is for carbed.
                      Just FYI

EDIT: to clarify, there is a SEPARATE coolant temperature sensor that threads into the coolant housing on the far right of this picture that is for the radiator fan.

                        Dry sender.
                        Nlockage?
Maybe your thermostat is not opening?
Time to remove the thermostat housing and take a look.
                        Interesting problem.

There are definitely two different temp senders. I ran into that problem when I replaced my worn out carb engine with an Aspire engine years ago.
