I'm about to pick up a '90 festiva. Wipers are unpredictable. Rode to the gas station in the rain, wipers wear dead. After airing up a low tire(dry rot). I got in it, fired the car up, and the wipers worked fine. Any ideas why its doing this?

Next time try wiggling the switch back and forth, then leave it on and try tapping and wiggling on the wiper motor..if the flintstone methods fail to identify the culprit you
will need to get at least a test light.Reflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig

Ignition switch. Mine did this too, but seems to have eventually healed itself. Wipers (and blower motor IIRC) wouldn't work until I turned the ignition switch clockwise a tiny bit more.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

I had the same problem. Spray WD-40 or contact cleaner into the keyhole in the ignition switch. Wiggle the key in and out. That will fix it for a few years then it has to be done again.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.
