Question about my alternator though. Since that nut post broke off is that just a ground or is that the main power wire to it? Just curious if I could just ground somewhere else if that's all it is instead of springing for a new alternator.

Its all relative I guess, big V engines going in pickups with goodies..7 to 10
grand, Diesel pickup engines with goodies 10 to 15 grand and if you want to race
we multipliers for those numbers!!

FestYboy is dead on! You have a short somewhere, and I am betting it has burned a brown/black mark on the wire and anything else close to it. Visual inspection MIGHT turn something up.
Was any work done shortly before the problem started?Contact me for information about Festiva Madness!

Yeah thats the thing I put a new A/C clutch on then took it to the shop to have the vacuum pulled and charged they said they had to change a fuse for the A/C. I think I ran it once just for a little bit and then a few days later is when I have this issue. I did a lot of visual inspection and didn't see anything. I am kind of thinking it might be the alt wire because it seems real stiff. I don't know muddevil if you can come over tonight then come on over. I am going to put that alt on and just get it to the shop. I have got just a ton of stuff going on right now and just can't spend anymore time on it chasing my tail. It cost me $5 a day for it to sit and drive the other vehicles.

So Muddevil and I worked all evening on the car. Here is what we got, for some reason the fusible link box was pulling a ground which we all kind of already knew. So we started with the alternator and chased wire there found nothing. We then followed the big white wire coming off the main towards the front of the car. Got just a little ways and found a spot where it plugs in. Unplugged there and then we lost the ground to the box but was still pulling ground at the plug going towards the front. We chased it across the entire front of the car over to the relay on the passenger side. Still found nothing. Looks like it is from where it goes behind the drivers fender and back somewhere in the harness where it goes into the firewall. Does anyone have any ideas where a good place to start would be or should I just find an entire harness? Really getting frustrated, both of us were I just want to get the little guy going again.

Ok since it kept popping the ”main” fuse we started there on one side of the main fuse there is a red wire and on the other side there is a a white wire when we tested the tested the red wire it has power no surprise there but when we tested the white wire it went to ground wth the white wire split and went two directions one to the alt. and the other went to a relay right behind the right Head light so we started unwrapping the harness and checking the wires for signs of chaffing and found none we traced the harness from the relay to where the harness went into the driver side fender does anyone know where the thick white goes once it enters the cab of the carJustin Craig Paola Kansas my 4 passions, demolition derby,Ford 2.3s, my festiva and my kids
