my temperature gauge is not working im about to try and figure out what's wrong with it anyone got any good starting points??

My '92 and '89 wiring manual says: Check connector at sensor, sensor ground (threads), wire between sensor and gauge, sensor and gauge. The FSM tells how to check sensor and gauge if you need it. The sensor is near the thermostat but not on it I believe.

On 90 - '93, at least, the gage sensor is to the right of #4 spark plug.

the needle could be binding in the cluster. the gauge can't have any physical resistance or it won't move.Trees aren't kind to me...
currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

The temp gauge and fuel gauge shouldn't effect each, there's no fuses for just the temp gauge
Any chance you have a spare cluster kickin around to swap in and check?
