Axle Nuts

I purchased two front axle nuts from Advanced Auto Parts (they were the only parts store that carried them) and this is what I got; http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...P60007_____BBV

My question is whether or not I can use this nut since I can't put the washers back on. Does there need to be a washer behind the axle nut? The axle nut provided by Advanced cannot be 'crushed' when a washer is installed behind it.

This design alleviates the need for a washer.
Just make sure you stake the nut well.
The aftermarket nuts tend to not be as mailable as OEM were.

Go to Rockauto and get Dorman part#615145 for "only" $5.33; $7.69 shipped. I'd get at least two, at $13.71 shipped.

If you need it fast, get three shipped Priority Mail for $20.99.

Rockauto usually ships stuff out fast anyways.

They also list the Raybestos part for a little over three bucks, but it's not in stock.

Oh crap, you already got them! Then I realized it's the SAME PART from Dorman. Ahhhhhh...can you take 'em back, or show them a Rockauto printout and ask for some cash back? I could understand maybe ten or twelve bucks each, but more than fifteen bucks over what the part is worth?

Cheaper than Rockauto! You need to go back to the store and show them this and ask why one nut is almost twenty bucks more than what looks like the same piece. Something ain't right here!

I would reuse the old ones until you find some reasonably-priced ones.

I've never had trouble mailing OEM or aftermarket ones, are you sure you don't mean malleable? John you out of all of us should spell that right lol :-P

Restake? What's that?

I don't even stake mine any more. I tighten the Be-John-us out of them and put a dab of nail polish on so I can check them every once in awhile. So far, no movement and all is well.

I don't recommend this procedure, by the way. Do as I say not as I do! Got it?
