water in gas

Have you ruled out water in tank? U could empty your gas tank,and put fresh gas in. 2 other ideas: bad temp sensor? o2 sensor? you might suspect the fuel pump as well. You ve gotten lots of good advice.

Think I found the problem my car only runs on the spark plugs during in the order of 1-2-3-4 and it won't crank in the actual right order of 1-3-4-2.

A ground fell across my starter yesterday. Smoked out meat up some wiring. The worst thing ever. Now I have to figure this one out. I wish I had some one to help me work on it so this crap wouldnt happen.

The firing order is not changeable!

i mean it tries to crank on the 1-3-4-2, but doesn't run and it runs on the 1-2-3-4, so i don't know what to tell you i will play with it and see. it is probably the distributor needing adjusting. i will figure that one out out later, now my main concern is the wiring all messed up. i think it didn't do to much damage only the driver auto seat belt and the fuel gauge doesn't work.


Will a custom fuel gauge work seeing that it wires up differently?

Okay, hanging upside down from the ceiling with my head in your engine
compartment facing your drivers side fender. It looks like the wire that burned
is the wire that supplies power to your fusible links. That would mean you need to
replace that wire and repair any burned spots in the loom that it may have touched.
It also means that the culprit is after the fusible link box. The links each power
something but one is burned through to the body or frame somewhere. It may
be a component that burned through to ground, several possibilities but an example
would be if the alternator shorted internally to ground.

i'll get more pictures tonight.(better ones) but the cable that looks like a ground (i guess) right behind starter is the one that was not attached to anything, hit the starter and started smoking, the wire runs straight to where the picture is showing throught a connector and to the fuseable links.behind the starter also was a connector that ran in the same wire bundle. just hopeing i didnt burn up something bad.

In the earlier pics it looked like the red wire off bat pos had burned. This wire was
on the starter bat wire? I didn't think anything belonged there but can check that out.
Looks like you need to open the loom to see if repairing is easier.

When you are on the done side of this project you should use a breaker or something
to test hooking the battery up, doing this twice would not be fun!!

That was a unfused wire and the festy is only supposed to have two of those
the battery cable and the supply wire to the fusible links box. That really makes
me wonder what that wire was doing on the starter.
