  • A couple quick questions...

This afternoon I am going to begin the process of swapping the interior and transmission of my '88LX into my '91L

This is the first time I've done any swaps between carb'd and EFI Festivas, and I understand there are some slight differences in the wiring and bolt holes. Here's a list of questions I have:

What size socket do you need to get the nuts off the front hubs?

Will the power mirrors from the 88 wire up to the 91's wiring harness, or
are the connectors different? If so, how do you overcome this obstacle?

I understand that all the bolt holes are there for manual seatbelts in the '91, except for the hole for the screw that the retractor hangs off of. Is this correct or do I need to do some more mods?

Do the switches on the dash from the '88 plug directly into the '91's harness? I remember someone saying they were different but I'm not sure.

That's all I can think of for now! I'm sure I'll have more questions as the swap progresses.

    Regards,

    Tim

My 91 uses a 29mm socket for the front hubs. A 30mm also works and is 10x easier to find.
    OX SMASH!!

you will have no problem with the wiring for the power mirrors

and yes only the bottom bolt for the front seat belt re-tractor will work, if you want you can fab a bracket for the top bolt (but i didn't)

all of the switches will work in the '91

ONE BIG QUESTION: HOW MUCH ARE YOU SWAPPING (INCLUDING ALL OF THE SIDE INTERIOR PANELS ?)

My 88 dash harness wouldn't plug into my 90 main harness. I had to swap harnesses. I put the 90 dash harness in the 88 dash then installed it into the 90. Not a big job.

I'm doing a total interior swap except for the dash and carpet.

I am swapping the panels you mentioned.

          Why do you ask?

the interior panels are different between the manual and auto seat belt cars so you need to change them.

you will have to use your old rear speaker decks for your 3-point seat belts

and you will have to cut a hole out for your fuel cut-out switch

and are you really swapping the dash?

I'm leaving the dash alone. The one in my car is better than the one in the parts car.

I'm probably going to cover up the fuel cut-out switch (not smart), since they rarely trip and the panel is relatively easy to remove in the event that I need to get to it.

I noticed. It was a pain in the butt to get them off - it involved removing the windows, among other things.

Thanks for the help! I'm sure I'll have more questions when it comes time for reassembly...

you are making the hole , IF YOU LIKE IT OR NOT

the panel will not fit, without the hole

I second that. It will not fit without a hole.
