  • Windshield washer pump issues.

The original w/w pump quit so I picked up a couple from PnP today. When hooked directly to the battery both pumps work well.

Installed the first one and it worked when I tested it. Put everything back together (splash shield etc) and went for a drive. Tried the pump again and... nothing.

Took it all apart again and hooked the pump directly to the battery and it worked fine. Checked voltage going to the harness at the pump and there's just over 12 volts. Hook the pump back up to the harness and... nothing.

Any ideas on what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ian

I know my wiper stalk is worn and I have to pull back and down to get the pump to go. Possibly a worn switch?

Not sure what I did but it's now working as it should. Did I mention that I really dislike working on electrical?

With electrical the first thing to do is hit stuff randomly... not too hard or with too big a hammer... at least the first time. If that doesn't work slowly work up to harder strikes with bigger instruments.

Try spraying WD-40 or contact cleaner into the switch area and working the switch to clean it off.
