The important thing is to have back up methods if one does not work. Not all grooves
are as they were new, and reman shafts..you could have pretty messed up splines.
Dirt from failure, poor installation or lack of oil change can foul clip movement. Installation techniques that bend part of the clip back into the spline is a really fine
gift to leave for the next guy. The wrong kind of clip..a snap ring can cause the next
fine gentleman to spew filth not fit for any human to hear!! Don't toss the small maul
and chisel, your turn may come!!Reflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig

On the driver's side I had to place a short 1/2" square piece up against the case under the bar for a fulcrum. One careful pop on the end of the bar with a small 3# sledge and out she comes. We shoved some 7/8" OD pvc pipe with some duct tape on the end into the each side gear to keep them in place in case the trans is turned. We put the axles back in without sirclips. Any guesses on why they are in there? I say, bottom line, it's to avoid sidegear issues during assembly line and future maintainence activities.

I sat on the ground and put one foot against the frame then just turned and yanked until it came out. Like the man said, it's position rather than force that get's it out.
To put an axle back in line the gap in the circlip at the top. Don't know why that works but I read it and it does. Voodoo.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.
