Nope just let the PB Blaster work and spray it again and again.
Then work it toward the fire wall, then back to the block, back and forth, till it's easy to move by hand.
Might take a while, patience will be rewarded with no more broken parts!
Uh, you have disconnected the speedo cable from the gear assembly, right?
Take the time to clean off the crud BEFORE you finally get it to move back and forth.
An old tooth brush works well in this confined area!
You have to understand that this assembly probably hasn't been opened in decades!

I had the same problem. I pulled out whatever was inside and screwed in a bolt then beat the bolt upwards from under the car until it popped out.

Never mess with the trees, some tree hugger will cry.

Keep it clean! Once you have it out, clean it WELL. Maybe even a touch of emory cloth. If it gives you a problem sliding in, it won't want to come out again.

Then, check it regularly, cleaning the body each time.

              Most of all, good luck!

I like to hear tree huggers cry, they are responsible for the fires out west.
They are responsible for the genetic weakening of our western forests.
They have no concept of what PB blaster can do to keep cars out of land fills. Be a friend of of mother earth and trees and make a tree hugger
scream! and use PB blaster and patience to save these parts from the landfill.

Pry with a wood chisel as you twist. If a plastic bottle cap can be found to protect the threads, a vice grip can be used.

All things considered, such as these remarks....

Maybe spraying a little PB Blaster around the edges, and wait for it to sink in?

It takes a lot of patience and trying, basically. I tried to wedge a screwdriver under the tab once, it started to come out, and then broke that tab off. Don't try that!

I would have to say you have been lucky not to share the same fate!

Now, you could just as easily leave the cable connected, and pull where it attaches. I personally prefer to use vice grips on flat surfaces, like the body of the gear.

I just had two of them out tonight, one from my old trans and one from the donor. Reminded me that it is the Oring at the very top that makes it tough to pull out. When you do get it out, make sure you lube it well before you install it again.

Thanks for looking out. The Pick'n'pull in Salt Lake has 2 festivas both have their motors, and a couple of aspires as well. I just can't get the stupid thing out still!

Don't bother grabbing an Aspire gear. They're not compatible with a Festy transmission; too long.

Do you have an Automatic or 5-speed? I know 5-speed gears are the same as I have a Festy 5-speed in one of my Aspires and I am using the Aspire gear.I thought the Autos while different than the 5-speed were also the same.

It isn't in right. Either the cable isn't lined up, or that tab being broken is messing you up. Someone posted about using a washer to hold it in, not a bad idea. There's a notch in the gear where the cable goes, and a.... thingy sticking out of the cable end, that have to be lined up.

Pretty sure that is the official designation, thingy.
