I would like to know how some are buying R-12 ,unless you know someone .You are to be a licensed a/c refrigerant tech to be able to purchase the 12 ,but not the 134 ? never understood that.
It really is not that much different.

The license is easy to get, money to afford the R12 isn't. :x I bought about 100 lbs before it was illegal, *phew* all the 134a cars are finally in my buying range, still have some R12 left over too.

Packrat, the chemical makeup of 134a is different than R12, essentilly no chlorine atoms to kill the O3.

I am going with Freeze 12 from a local supplier

          cheaper than R 12
and does a great job in my festy (at least in the one i sold)

of course i will change the refrigerant oil to Ester oil
and replace as many seals as i can
and maybe a flush or two

it must suck not have a shop at your disposal

and it is not an orifice tube , It is a thermostatic expansion valve , located in the evaporator case
