ok, if you can dig out the rollers, you can pull the drum off, then take a cutoff wheel perpendicular to the outer race on the spindle and cut it in 2 places 180* from eachother. the bearing can then be knocked off and the spindle polished to accept new bearings.

Well... After 5 hours at the mechanic, I called 20 minutes before they closed, just to be told, that they were unable to do anything, however if I liked, I could bring the entire shop dinner. I told them to stick it, and ended up paying $40 for NOTHING.

I found the rear plate, spindle, drum, everything for $50 pulled for me at a junkyard, or I'm going to a You-pull place that'll sell it to me for $20. I should have just done it myself in the first place. I don't get how men take their cars to the mechanic for little stuff. That was the most emasculating experience. Ugh.

After I get the new (used) stuff I'll be hacking up the old with my grinder, so I can get the NEW brakes, and wheel cylinder that I had just put in, out of it. UGH.

I tried digging out the rollers on the one that the outer had gone bad on, but had no luck. Seemed like the heat got to the inners as well. You have had success with that on these?

If you were able to get the rollers out, the wheel and drum should come off. Then you can heat the seized race and pull it off with a puller. Or at least you can get to the spindle bolts to replace it.

He said they "Pounded on it with a slide hammer. Then they heated it up with a torch. Then they froze it with spray." It rolled just as well when I took it away, as when I brought it in. (Enough to drive a block to my house)

Have you tried using a large gear puller?

Steering wheel (crow's foot) puller bolted to 2 of the lug holes with the center bolt in the depression at the end of the stub. You'll break a bolt or the tool before you break the axle stub, but almost guaranteed it'll come off in fairly short order, especially if you apply heat from a MAPP or Propane torch (i.e. no oxy or cutting torches)

This suggestion is dangerous but you could try using the weight of the car. Put a block behind the wheel, remove the axle nut, and rock the car back and forth to see if it that frees the wheel. Stop before the wheel falls off the spindle and the car drops. Jack the car up and remove the wheel.

Still better also stack blocks under the rear axle leaving 1" clearance so if the wheel falls off the car will only drop 1".

Went to Tear-a-part, and pulled one off of a '93, that is clean, greased, and even has new brakes on it... for $20! brought it home, put it on, good to go.

Thanks everyone who tried to help on this.
