Well i looked for vacuum leaks, checked the coolant temp solenoids, replaced the fuel pump, checked plugs, wires, dizzy cap, sprayed carb spray on vacuum lines and even tried adjusting the idle/air screw and it still wont idle on its own but i am however able to drive it. One thing i did notice is that it seems to be more responsive and its not bucking so something helped a little but as soon as i take my foot off the gas it dies. Could i possible have the idle/air screw adjusted wrong? Which way do you turn it to lean it out and visversa? Is it possibly time for me to do a carb swap????????

the idle air screw should never be touched for one (it's capped for a reason), and are you refering to the idle speed screw?? it's still the idle fuel circuit that's causing an idle issue...(lack of air through the venturi or lack of fuel in the idle circuit tube). wish i was there to put my hands on it, it's likely something simple we're both missing.Trees aren't kind to me...

Turns out that is was something simple, a vacuum line to one of the solenoids on the fire wall. I found it by spraying carb cleaner around and when it idled up it clued me in on where it was and BAM! So its up and running again. So thanks for all the help i really appreciate it. Now if i can just figure out this erratic idle problem ................ It never has idled smoothly so i may just deal with it but if i can find out what the problem is that would be even better!FF-89

provided there are no vac leaks, the factory system will allow a steady idle of UNDER 300 rpm... so with that being said, you may still have a small leak somwhere. did you check for a leak at the thermo solenoids that are UNDER the intake manifold?Trees aren't kind to me...

I checked them as far as the hoses go and cracks in them but i didn't actually climb under the car with it running and spray carb spray on them to see what happens, but i will. I would love to have a smooth idle for a change Another thing too, this just happened about an hour ago during my lunch break. I filled up the tank and drove for about 5 miles and all of a sudden it started to act up again with the same symptoms as before (cutting off at a light, not wanting to start back up and it died on me on the side of the interstate) so i sat for a minute and it fired right back up and pulled off fine like nothing was wrong. Now to flash back to the beginning of this problem if i remember correctly i had just filled the tank then as well when it started acting up, huuummm so could it be trash in the tank or a clogged fuel line or something like that?FF-89

Pop the fuel pump/sender, under the rear seat, and take a look. Be sure to use a flashlight and not a lighter or a match. You will see how much crud or absence thereof is present in your fuel tank. Everyone should do this every ten years.Last edited by bravekozak; 11-26-2012, 04:39 PM.
