Gas filling issue

I tried searching but maybe I searched the wrong terms...

The issue is when I got to fill my festiva with gas at a station it wont take gas very fast. I have to hold the gas nozzle at the pump barely open and trickle the gas into the car. What causes this issue? Its getting cold out and not fun when an SUV putting 16 gallons of gas in gets done before me putting 7 gallons of gas in.

Is there a vent tube or something or is it a problem in the filler tube?

If you're going to look in there for an obstruction use a flashlight, not a match.
Better yet poke a long wire down the tube.
When you are filling the tank doesn't it vent out the filler tube?

x2 on what the pain train said, this was a problem i encountered a few years back, the anti siphon ball valve was corroded and stuck. good luck

Wait till tank is low, best if a gallon or less is in tank.
Or drain it via the drain bolt.

I hope I don't have to reiterate the fact you handling a flammable and volatile fluid.
No smoking, open flames, or other ignition sources near by.

Disconnect the fuel fill tube from the tank at the tank.
The anti-siphon valve is inside the tank exactly were the tube was disconnected.
Just work it back and forth until free, a little PB Blaster will help.

Not to thread jack but is this a similar process on most vehicles? I have a Bronco that has this same problem...

Check the vent tube too, Used to be the vent was usually pinched, rarely the anti siphon valve unless somebody was trying to defeat it and damaged it. With today's fuel damaging fuel system parts more of these valves and other corrosion problems are showing up.
