Engine Not Sounding Good

Well, it would appear I'm either leaking or burning more oil than usual cause I just checked my level today and I was seeing pretty much nothing! Put a Quart of oil in it and the noise is gone...Could probably use another quart!! Whoops!

Oh...and the underside of my gas cap looked milky. I've read before about milky oil. Don't recall the issue, but I know it's not good. Nothing looked milky inside the oil cap hole...just on the underside of the cap..

That's probably just condensation. One thing you'll need in changing the lash adjusters is a inch/pound torque wrench.

Always....ALWAYS when you hear a ticking noise, check your oil level first.

rafe when i got blake cleaner in my intake my engine made that noise and oil looked milky so i did an oil change and it fixed both problems. sea foam will also make it do that.

Bruce ran for a couple of years with a lifter intermediately dropping out. Usually at low oil levels and low temps. I agree with above post, the quick way- sea-foam oil flush. Or even better, pull you rockers off, remove the lash adjusters and soak them for a bit then blow out passages with brake cleaner. Easy stuff, and I would be happy to help.

Cool man. I might take you up on that next time I make the trek to KC in the Stiva. I have so many things I need to do. Fix shifter, replace clutch, paint hatch, find seats, repair rust...the list goes on and I'm one lazy SOB! Doesn't help I work during the light hours of the day and my three day weekends usually consist of hanging out with my GF!

Yea, that was my problem too. Solved it up by breaking up with the GF. Now I have LOTS of free time!

I had the same problem/sound about 2 years ago - all it is is one of the rocker arms (I believe they are called) is loose/broke. I took my valve cover off, thus exposing all 8 of the rocker arms and began to push on them you will be able to find the loose one (at least I did). I went up to a junkyard and bought all 8 rocker arms from them, and I replaced the loose one with the ones from the yard. The sound went away and I have put at least 50k on it since. I have a 7 more rocker arms too if your interested. Let me know if you have any questions, but do not fear - its nothing major (at least mine wasn't)!

Hey i have that same tick. My oil is at a perfect level, have done a seafoam treatment dont even smoke out the back after the first one anymore. there is the tick, no loss in power no loss in compression no loss of acceleration no burning oil at all ( just passed emissions with flying colors ) but how much do you want / need for them i really dont got much money as i just put 250-300 into this one to make it runnins ( new belts , fuel pump , strainer , filter , tune up , headlights ( the casings ) about everything lol. it sounds most likely like its coming from the left side of the engine ( passenger side ) when i got my head under the hood. besides the tick there is no problems what so ever at all with the engine. no leaks nothing.

I consider this a low mileage car, only 119k on it and its 20 years old....

Very. But we are, and have been friends for years so it has to work until the lease is up in Aug. Or until I am out of school and can afford said garage.

Im in the same situation as you man, I find it really weird....... Kinda hard to move on with my life lol
