Just had a 68 stock beetle coming in doing similar stuff today, I was thinking about this..

Won't be up there till probably around 3ish, but I'll still bring those parts with me (swaybar, spare tire, and fuel pickup). I'm still betting the sender is your problem since the gas level seems to have a lot of bearing on the problem. Kinda like my '81LTD, though it had a hole so big about halfway down the tube that if you got below it it just flat out would not run at all.No festiva for me ATM...Comment
