  • tire roar?

Ok so ive gone through the posts about bearins etc , and well....

1st was a shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound and a like roar sound like you hear form a big ole truck tires.
at first i thought it was well i didnt know so i took of the front tires ended up replacing the brake pads, lubed anything i could reach with white lithium.

now the shhhhh sound is gone but still a roaring sound.

there is no play in the wheels when jacked up. there is no play in the steering when turning left or right.
there is no grinding , clicking or clunking when turning either.

could this simply be tire noise?

Rub your hand accross the tread of the tire from front to back. If any leading edge of the tire catches your hand then more than likely your tires are cuped and could likely be causing your noise.
Im not driving a Festiva because I'm poor. I drive a Festiva because i want to!

Have someone stand beside a highway and listen as you drive by. Ask them to listen to hear if your car sounds any louder than the other cars passing by. I'm betting it's not tire noise, but rather a bad bearing. Just because the wheel feels tight does not mean the bearing is not bad. Bearings can get little chips out of the surface of the rollers and cause the bearing to "growl" even though the wheel/bearing feels tight.
      You gonna race that thing?

I would go so far as to check how much fluid is in his transmission. The whirring noise of a truck tire is more of a hum than a roar, but if his tires come up fine, that's where I'd check...

Try rotating the tires and see if the sound changes.

lol no not super swampers some old federal tires on there with like 98% tread remaining almost seem damn brand new. uncle drove the car today after we finished bleeding the brakes and putting on new belts. he thinks its tire noise. but lol just no idea and yes they are 12 inch tires. and after looing at a grappler tire, the tread pattern is simmilar. but as i said mine are 12inch federals

Truth be known most of us have actually travelled in modern cars. Festys are the closest thing to road-legal go-karts there is (except for even older Austin Minis, Fiat 500s and Citroen 2CVs.) and when road noise bothers us something is definitely wrong. What it is though is a whole other dimension of thought.
Turn the radio up some more and just 'be happy'. You'll find out sooner or, with a bit of luck, later.

transmission fluid is fine. not to sure still. will watch it as i go along going to drive it for a while then flush all the systems with fluids etc after a month or 2

Mine was doing the same thing I could have sworn it was tires, it ever got really loud at 58 mph then leveled right back off at any thing higher or lower.
my wheels bearings were nice and tight so i drove to for a few weeks and it got worse so i checked for wheel play again and my passenger rear was slightly loose remover the outer bearing and inspected it for heat and wear , also the race all looked good so i repacked and retightned them and good as new.
                              I almost bet its bearings.
