  • Draining Gas

I filled my carbed '89 right before it died. It might be a month or more before it's fixed. I'd like to get that gas out of there and put it in my '93. I spent an hour disconnecting the line and running it through the wheel well but only a few ounces came out. I removed the gas cap too. What's the best way to get the bulk of it out?

I'd probably use the drain plug on the gas tank.

      Draining Gas

That would make too much sense :p

2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

There's 10 gallons in there! I was looking for something a little slower. All I have is a few small gas cans.

Go in the back of the car lift up the seat. open the cover to the fuel pump then use a phillips screwdriver to open it. or i have no idea because you ahve a carb one. dont know if that access is there.

You can siphon it out, just don't do it orally like on Wikihow.
You can get a siphon pump kit at Home Depot.

It is. The float is still there. I agree with the drain plug. Just put a new oil pan below it and pull the plug.

There actually is a drain plug on Festy gas tanks? Far out, man. Sorta of makes sense 'cause otherwise you have to highway drive for an entire day to drain the tank, and come to think of it, going back and forth across Korea or Japan for hours on end is a downright nuisance.
But did you know that by 2025 (or thereabouts) average fuel economy of all vehicles in USA (and likely sub-servant Canada) is supposed to be the same as a Festy? A Hummer H1 with a 'mulch feature' Briggs & Stratton in it is all I can envision at the moment.

                    Remove fuel line.
Install cheap inline electric pump with extra hose on the outlet port of the inline pump.
                    Run jumper leads to battery.
Fill container(s). Or pump directly into '93.
                    Done.

I learned something very important today. Regular gas with ethanol should not be stored in any gas powered small engine. This includes lawnmowers, snowblowers, generators, chain saws, etc.
Gas without ethanol is the new storage standard.
I have extrapolated this to all of my vehicles.
Ethanol is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture and go bad quickly.
I commend you for draining your tank.

I would do the siphon pump/tube route. If you can get the other car close, you could pump it right in like he said^^^
My fear of using the drain plug would be any crap that's laying in the bottom of the tank. Taking off covers and exposing gas vapors to air is an accident waiting to happen. Even old "dry" tanks contain a fair amount of fumes. I have a good friend that almost lost his entire face (as opposed to half he did lose) when he opened up a tank that had been laying outside with the cap off for over 10 years. He thought since it was bone dry and had "aired out" for 10 years it would be safe. If he removes a tank now, he drains it and fills it with water to force all the vapors out before he messes with it.

Transfering gas into containers is also a little risky, IMO.

Jigglers work good on the older cars with no roll over anti tamper system. The 90 and
newer festies with the system will still let the tube in but the flap cuts the available opening
in half, it is harder to get by and get the tube to the bottom of the tank

I would just take a tube and suck it out, but that's me. Some people would hoot and holler about chemicals in your mouth, but it doesn't bother me. Just brush your teeth real good and use some mouth wash after. Gas smells awesome but not when it's from your mouth.

How do you fit 10 gallons, into an 8 gallon tank?
