  • Wheel Bearing Diagram?

I replaced my inner wheel bearing last night, and noticed that the thing that the bearings spin on was all pitted. I decided to continue with the new install. Once i was finished it drove around the block nice and quiet, so I went to bed. While coming home from school yesterday it's making the noise again, and possibly even louder. I'm thinking that the pitted thing the bearings spin on is the reason. However, I would also like to make sure that I put the spacers in correctly. Does anybody happen to have a diagram of the wheel bearing? I can't find one anywhere...

    Thanks!

The bearings and races are matched sets, I've mixed and matched before without problems, but they are supposed to be replaced at the same time, pitts and rust are definitely not good.

The hub shaft being pitted shouldn't be an issue, as long as its round and not oval, and the bearing can slide on and off unhindered.

Yes , pitting on the shaft = who cares. Although if there pitting IN the cup where the cylindrical rollers goes against , you have a problem. The inner surface of the cup must be pristine , and grease plentiful.

The front bearings spin on the bearing race of the cups which you should have replaced when you replaced the cone (bearing cage).

Hate to be 'That guy', but are you sure you should be attempting to replace hub bearings if you can't ID a bearing race? I would rather rebuild a head than do another set of hubs. If you got it done, disregard my comment and good for you.

Just because we don't know the technical term doesn't mean we are not capable of replacing it! ohsnap

Thanks to all with the help. I think it's the race that is pitted. The shaft is fine.
