Hey Guys, I'm new to the forum. A couple weeks ago I purchased a 1993 Festiva. Decided to unhook the Air Flow Meter along with the intake hose to check out the air filter. Got to cleaning everything off (dry paper towel). Now I can't get my car started. It will turn over (which it has a hard time). Also found oil in my intake hose (i think it's called blow back). Don't know nothing about how oil could get into the intake hose. Just thought I'd ask you guys.

The vent hose from your valve cover will let oil in if you have to much oil or your pcv valve doesn't work properly. And it is a festiva those things sounds normal.

You may have messed up the airflow meter.... its the thin wires inside the meter and you have to be extremely careful with them and cant get anything on them. Check and see that they are all still in-tacked and then if they are try spraying them with brake cleaner... you want to only spray them with something that will evaporate and not leave a residue

drumnerd33 - I'll check out the connection as well. This car is new to me so learning as I go along. Had half of the interior out last week when I fixed the instrument cluster.

Sounds like one of those simple mistakes where you just forgot to hook something back up. I unplugged my ignition coil last week when working on my wiper motor and forgot to plug it back in. The car would turn over, but would never start up...I remembered later I never plugged the ignition coil back in!

Going to put new spark plugs/wires in soon. What plugs are recommended?

NGK V-Power is what I've always run in both my B3 and B6T. No sense paying for the fancy stuff when the cheaper parts work better. I recommend NGK plug wires as well, though they are a bit of an investment. Check RockAuto and Ebay for cheapest prices on both.

Yeah i also used the ngk v groove they work well in this motor.

Way back in 1990, the first time I removed the VAF unit, instead of spreading the little clips and pulling pulling off the plug, I took the two screws out of the side of the input plug and before I realized it I had pulled wires loose inside. Had to remove the black plastic D shaped cover on the top and piece everything back together. Used silicone to seal the cover back on. Amazing but it worked and it's still working OK to this day. I highly recommend that you buy a Festiva service manual if you plan on keeping and working on your Festiva.
