  • 88 festiva Help

I have a 88 festiva LX i bought. I rebuilt carb, replaced plugs and wires, ignition coil, distrib. cap & rotor, fuel filter, fule pump, checked all vaccum lines, tried fuel cap removal trick. It is a pain to start. I live in south texas so it hasnt been to cold out. When i got to start it in the morning it takes 2-3 minutes to get it started. I have to sit there giving it gas for 5 min to get it semi warm just to get out the drive way. Once going everytime i have to stop it dies or trys to die. (WILL NOT IDLE). Once the car is warmed up it it will idel and run decent (still sputter and seems that it is lacking power). What should i do now?

Was thinking of doing a carb conversion... If so what carb should i use and what all do i need.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

well, there's either a fuel delivery issue, OR more likely a weak air signal through the carb causing fuel dribble. get a vaccum gauge and post readings. also look for vac leaks with carb or brake clean, OR propane gas...

Have you cleaned the carb with an inexpensive can of spray carb cleaner? I do mine once a year.

I'll have to get a gauge and check it. Should I just replace all vacuum lines to carb?

No but I just rebuilt carb not 100 miles ago. I just bought the car. It sat for 8 years some I'm just having issues getting her lined out.

The carb has the most likelihood of tripping you up.

Ditch the feedback carb and all the spaghetti hose that goes with it, You don't need the headache.
Put on an Escort or a Weber carb, Do a search to see what others have done. There are lots of good threads on this subject. I personally would never waste a nickel (no more pennies in Canada) trying to troubleshoot a feedback carb. Carbs don't need to be computer controlled. Good luck.

Since the carb was rebuilt I would want to confirm that the hoses have been put back in the right places.
There have been photos posted here over the years showing the locations of most of them.
