When the TC goes, there are two ways. One, you progress to no movement. Two, it progresses toward not disengaging. The second starts with the symptoms you describe.
If there is no rattle in park and neutral positions, and it still drives. Rattling only when in a gear and stopped. Then it is most likely your torque converter. Locking up.
Could also be the transmission valve body. If it is, most likely the TC will be spoiled by the metal deposits in the oil.
Drain the transmission and check for metal in the pan and filter.
