  • No spark after snow storm

    I'm out of idea's on this one! After the snow storm Thursday the Festiva is dead. My wife drove it Wednesday night and it was fine. Alot of snow got under the hood. I guess it was just at the right angle I bet there was over a inch under there. It just cranks over and what I can tell no spark, pulled the wire from the coil and turned it over. Plenty of fuel. Changed out the disty and still nothing. All the fuses are good. What am I missing? Is there a relay I need to be looking for?

    I must of really pissed of the car gods.. even the Focus is cutting out and the Festiva is dead!

    Probably wet ignition components. Blow it out and dry off under your distributor cap and coil.

      Did that and replaced the Distributor even. On the drivers side by the battery had the most snow. Wonder what's hiding in there.

        Remove dry out and emery cloth both battery terminals, remove and check the fusible links in behind the battery. Make sure they aren't melted.

          The links are now fuses. Everything was dry that high. Think I'll pull the battery out tomorrow and put a heater in its place. Hopefully wont blow up..

              No spark after snow storm

              Possible.. Will have to pull the battery to have a better look. And I just got the battery adjusted and clamped down good. Strange how it just went from running to dead with no in between.

                  WD-40 removes moisture. (full name WaterDispersant-40)
                  Since "everything" has been wiped dry I'd look for moisture inside any little plastic plug connectors in the ignition system.
                  Pull apart and dry or spray with WD-40.
                  A volt meter or test light is inexpensive and always handy to have when diagnosing electrical/electronic problems.
                  Good luck.

                    Spray wires and electrical stuff with WD40.
                    WD = water displacement

                      I'd also look at the main relay by the battery....if that area was packed with snow, possibility that it took water and failed.

                        If the main relay failed would I still have power everywhere else? I checked the main fuses and all three were good. I'm getting 12v to the coil just isn't getting the pulse to fire. Is it the yellow blue/green wire that controls the pulse? Sure wish I had a service manual! Have a chiltons but it's useless for problem like this.

                          Yes you would, my dad's festy lost the main relay over a large bump. Just shut off, but would crank and try to start. We started swapping parts from mine to see what the problem was. pretty much the entire ignition system. All to no avail, until I randomly grabbed the main relay as he was cranking it and it started. Problem solved.

                            My thoughts are with you, but I don't have any suggestions. I don't have a FSM for the fuel injected years.
