Banana, depending on your location it isn't necessarily illegal to swap carbs... for instance here in PA, if i keep the car under 5000 mi a year, i can do anything i want to it without fear of failing any emissions test (mileage exemption).

That's an interesting situation, wish we had something like that here. I'd keep a replacement dash cluster just for that very occasion. Guaranteed the car would only register as many miles on it as it took to take it to inspections and back home. And legal too, as long as you keep your mouth shut!
