Be sure to get the intake manifold that is in the works. Get rid of the computer controlled feedback carb. What a headache trying to figure out what's wrong.
Mine did exactly the same thing before I Weberized it.

Ditch the old carb. Do not rebuild it. It's not worth even one cent.
Put on a non-computer controlled Escort carb.

Someone help me. Is this a good one?

EFI swap would require everything attached to the intake side ot the head, engine harness and at least a way to run an electric pump with the ignition on. not impossible, but not a brease either....

that car i posted before is a carby. may just pick it up, take the carb and part out the white car.

I have two oem carbs if you want them let me know,but I would just do the webber swap mine ran horrible with stock feedback carb,i even bought a fresh rebuilt one off of ebay and put it on but were the vacuum lines had been moved around by po it still wasn't reliable so I spent the money for the webber kit off of ebay it's a little more than what the shop told you but it comes with adapter plate and is prejetted for the car.so all you have to do is undo throttle cable and removed your air box and the 4 nuts holding carb on simple bolt on and go ,runs great now.

plus if you buy that white festiva the ad says it has not ran in a few years that means the carb on it would have to be rebuilt also.so you'd still be in the same boat

Did the mechanic tell you what's wrong with your carburettor? Have you tried cleaning it to see if that improves performance? Did the mechanic mention whether or not he cleaned it? It would not cost much to spray in some carb cleaner. Since carburettors have been out of use on new cars since about the time your car was made there are not a lot of mechanics who have experience diagnosing them. Before spending $400 I'd want a second opinion from someone I knew knew carburettors. Even years ago when I wanted an engine diagnosis on my Festivca all they did was hook it up to an electronic device and follow the instructions. That's why I now have a vaccum guage as was mentioned above. Look at the permanent thread at the top of this repair forum home page to see how to use a vacuum guage to help diagnose engine problems. That and checking all the miriad of vacuumn hoses for cracks and loose connections.

no he didn't say specifically what was wrong with it. just that i needed to look down the road for a new carb. fully loaded with all the internals is what he said. they soaked it in carb cleaner overnight is what he said, and it runs a lot better than what it did, but not running the way it should. i may look at doing the weber swap if its really just a matter of money and not a whole lot of hardcore swapping problems.

you can get the escort webber car and an adapter plat for cheap just search on here for webber swap,there are a few guys on here that have plates and a few that are about to start selling plates

ok, so found a donor car here in town that i can get the carb off of. its 50$, and teh car has been run in the last 6 months. im going to get it, soak it in carb cleaner for like a week and put it on. anyone know of anything i need to look at to make sure its worth a crap?

ok, just found out this car is a 90 model, that runs and drives well. guy sold it to the pick it for a few hundred. i may go save this car from the crusher.
