Mine did exactly the same thing before I Weberized it.
Ditch the old carb. Do not rebuild it. It's not worth even one cent.
Put on a non-computer controlled Escort carb.
Someone help me. Is this a good one?

Justin, the Weber carb requires 12 volts to operate the choke, the wire from the alt for the feedback choke is only 7 volts.
When you install the weber, use one of the old sensor wires, that is "key on" 12 volts, and use that for the choke.
You need only that and one vacuum hose for the disty, which you run from the carb vacuum port and you can tee to both vacuum ports on the disty.Dan
