On my current Aspire I had no instrument-panel lighting. I did have all the idiot lights, and all the lights for the heater controls. Pulled the cluster and discovered that there was a break in the greenboard line on the rear of the cluster that gave power to the instrument lights. Someone in the past must have accidentally cut it and didn't realize it.
